The Fortune Table Lamp has a frame that is constructed of wrought iron, making this lamp very strong and durable. It is powder-coated in order to ensure the longevity of its color. The legs are bound and tied to the frame, and are made of real bamboo, which has been hand-stained to create a wonderful contrast to the bold colors of the shade. Bamboo is thought to be good luck in many Asian cultures.
The lampshade is made of fossilized cocoa leaves. The fossilization is the process of drying leaves over a three- to four-month period and hand-rubbing the chlorophyll off of the leaf so only the leaf's skeleton remains. The leaf is then stained in organic dyes. Natural leaves absorb dye differently, so each lamp has leaves with different hues and shades, sometimes even within the same leaf. Artists cut each leaf to ensure that no leaf will overlap, and use a strong sealant to enhance the stability and integrity of the shade. One 40-watt medium base bulb is required, and compact florescent bulbs are highly recommended for energy efficiency.
