The Gecko Wall Light is a fun and whimsical piece for your wall with a distinct design. It has a frame that is constructed from wrought iron, and is powder-coated to ensure the longevity of its color. The frame is then wrapped in abaca twine, with the feet and the tip of the tail exposed, giving the lamp definite contrast. The abaca plant is fast- growing, and resembles the banana plant. Abaca will re-grow from the same root system after being cut.
Fossilized cocoa leaves make up the lampshade. Fossilization is the process of drying leaves over a three- to four-month period, then hand-rubbing the chlorophyll from the leaf so only the leaf's skeleton remains. Once the chlorophyll is removed, the leaf is stained in organic dyes and adhered to a heat-resistant backing. Artists cut each leaf to ensure that no leaf will overlap and then use a strong sealant to enhance the stability and integrity of the shade. The shade is bound to the wrought iron frame with hand-stitched abaca rope. This lamp uses one 25-watt medium base bulb, and energy-efficient, compact florescent bulbs are highly recommended.
